The most successful retailers
understand clicks vs bricks is not a zero sum game finding there are
benefits to having both physical stores and an online presence.
Traditional physical store only apparel retailers who fully embrace
internet shopping such as Nordstrom are having huge success.
Nordstrom
found their multi channel customers spend 3 to 4 times what a single channel customer spends. Many online retailers such Amazon and Rent the Runway are opening physical stores allowing
them to build brand loyalty and connect directly with their customer
base. Make no mistake, if retailers do not adapt to the online world of
their customers, strong retailers such as Amazon will pick up their
customers.
The NY Times
recently reported Amazon is the largest and most succesful retailer in
the world, in part due to their punishing yet rewarding company culture
for success. Therefore, landlords need to understand the online strategy
of any apparel retailer wanting to rent space in their centers before
proceeding to lease.
